Baseball Is Back In Ossining

Ossining JCYS Baseball Summer 2020 COVID-19 Protocols & Procedures

Safe & responsible plan to return Baseball in Ossining – effective as of 7/8/2020

Mandatory for all Coaches & Players:

-       Universal NO TOUCH rule – Players, coaches and umpires must refrain from physical contact with each other or opponents on the field of play. Tagging a player out is the only reason contact should be made with anyone at any time.

-       Players must wear face coverings whenever they are not on the field of play. The field of play is defined as the area between the white lines.  All players are responsible for their own face coverings and will be refused ability to participate without proper face covering.

-       Upon arrival at the field the coach will designate each player a logical area to put their equipment. For example: hanging their equipment bag on the fence, six feet from any teammate.  As additional players arrive, bags can be placed on the fence in this fashion.  Coaches and/or Coordinators may also provide an extended player area for social distancing when needed.

-       A tip of the hat or wave will replace the customary post-game handshake.

-       Equipment – All equipment including gloves, bats, helmet, catching gear, etc.… should be sanitized before and after every game. THERE IS NO SHARING OF EQUIPMENT! If catchers are switched and must use the same equipment, proper cleaning and sanitizing of the equipment must be done prior to use by a new player.

-       Hand Washing and Sanitizing – All Players and Coaches shall sanitize their hands upon arrival at the field, after warm ups, between every inning and/or whenever a foreign object has been touched. Coaches must do a full wipe down of the dugout area before and after each practice and game.

-       All players and coaches shall remain socially distant, at least six feet apart, when not of the field of play.

-       Anyone experiencing symptoms or living with someone experiencing symptoms must stay home.

-       All players MUST bring their own drinks and snacks. There will be no sharing of food and drinks. Team and shared spectator coolers are prohibited.

-       There will be no spitting or chewing seeds, gum, or similar products.

-       If you have recently traveled to or from one of the states on the New York State travel advisory list you are prohibited from participation in and attendance at all JCYS activities until completion of the State of New York mandated 14 day quarantine period.

Mandatory for Coaches:

-       Coaches must wear face coverings at all times when unable to socially distance by 6’ or more.

-       Attendance must be taken to create a log for any potential contract tracing.

-       Coaches are responsible for the actions and safety of everyone attending. This includes, but is not limited to players, assistant coaches, umpires and team spectators. This includes monitoring and enforcing all COVID-19 prevention measures outlined here. Enforcement of social distancing guidelines both on the bench and in the stands should be ongoing.

-       Anyone experiencing symptoms or living with someone experiencing symptoms must stay home.

-       Coaches keep their own line up cards, whether physical or on line. Umpires will not receive scorecards.

-       Scheduling – when scheduling games and practices, there must be a 30 minute window in-between practices and games in order to allow the safe exit and arrival of players and to allow the proper sanitizing of the dugouts and bleachers.

-       Baseballs – Ossining JCYS will supply baseballs to be used exclusively for the team in the field to minimize the number of people touching the same ball. Coaches must sanitize all used balls with disinfectant in-between innings.  Ossining JCYS will provide an increased number of baseballs to be used and rotated into play for all summer clinics and games.

-       Coaches are responsible for making sure hand sanitizer is available at all times and should remind players to sanitize their hands between innings.

Mandatory for umpires (if applicable):

-       Must wear face coverings at all times.

-       Must use hand sanitizer in-between each inning.

-       Must separate personal equipment from other players and coaches’ equipment.

-       Must adhere to all COVID-19 preventative measures outlined here and follow 6’ distancing when interacting with any player, coach or spectator both on and off the field of play unless it is within the normal flow of a game.

-       Must conduct daily symptom self-evaluations. Anyone experiencing symptoms or living with someone experiencing symptoms must stay home.

Mandatory for Spectators:

-       Must adhere to all COVID-19 preventative measures outlined here and follow 6’ distancing from other spectators not living in their household.

-       Must conduct daily symptom self-evaluations. Anyone experiencing symptoms or living with someone experiencing symptoms must stay home.

-       Must not enter the player areas of the field. This includes in and around the backstop, team dugouts, as well as the coach and players areas or any other area that is designated as restrictive zone by Coaches and/or Coordinators.

All requirements above are in effect until further notice.  Attendance at and participation in any Ossining JCYS functions is an understanding and acknowledgement of our COVID-19 safety protocols and procedures.
